Amazon bringing physical pop-up store to San Antonio | INTELLIGENT WORLD TODAY |
Shoppers at North Star Mall in San Antonio and The Parks Mall at Arlington will be able to peruse the online retailer’s devices — including the Echo, Fire TV, Fire tablets, Dash Button and Kindle — and ask employees about Amazon’s services such as its Prime subscription at the kiosk-like stores, according to a page on the company’s website. According to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation records, Amazon is planning additional pop-ups at Willowbrook Mall in Houston, The Woodlands Mall in The Woodlands and Baybrook Mall in Friendswood. Sandeep Mathrani — CEO of real estate investment trust General Growth Properties Inc., which owns North Star Mall — said Amazon’s goal is to open “300 to 400 bookstores” during an earnings call in February, indicating that Amazon may be eyeing real estate in major retail centers.
