Mom Posts 6-Year-Old Daughter's Horrifying Seat Belt Injury to Warn Other Parents | INTELLIGENT WORLD TODAY | Scoop.it
Shelly Martin of Richmond, Virginia has a message for all the parents out there who have children that hate their booster or car seats.
Al Cannistra's insight:

It can happen any time of the year – but with the increased travel of summertime, now seems appropriate to share this reminder. This little child apparently was riding without a booster seat. You can get the details in the story.

.

In my real estate practice, as much as I like to have clients in my car so we can chat, if they are unable to have a sitter and must bring the kids along, we go in separate cars. For me, the walkaway is do not let children ride without the proper gear - ever.

23 Things Our Parents Did That We Could Never Do Today

23 Things Our Parents Did That We Could Never Do Today | INTELLIGENT WORLD TODAY | Scoop.it
From dangerous teething solutions to questionable carseats, these pieces of bad parenting advice from a few decades ago would horrify today's moms and dads.
Al Cannistra's insight:

I AM A SURVIVOR of just about all these things. Though I never heard of bathing in oil (that sounds too adult) or the corn syrup; the bourbon while teething was actually quite enjoyable (if you learned to work it, the parents just slapped more on your gums).

.

Oh hell yes, I survived – my father smoking 4 ½ packs a DAY, no seat belts, drinking from the hose, broken playground equipment, getting hit in the head by sister holy water for an ”alleged” infraction (a Catholic thing) – and more. Somehow we - the population - not only survived, but grew by millions!

.

Today life is better, safer. The experts tell us that.

They’re full of it. It used to be way more fun.
