Recordings show Daley, LBJ worked to stem 1968 riots - Chicago Tribune

Recordings show Daley, LBJ worked to stem 1968 riots - Chicago Tribune | INTELLIGENT WORLD TODAY | Scoop.it
Telephone conversations released Tuesday show Mayor Richard J. Daley and President Lyndon Johnson working urgently to stem rioting in Chicago after the Rev. Martin Luther King's assassination in 1968 — and Johnson later chastising Daley for not seeking his help earlier.
Al Cannistras insight:

Perhaps history is destined to repeat – they used force in Chicago in 1968 when people were rioting and looting – only 9 or 11 died because the right people had the courage to use force and bring it to an end.... 2020 is out of control; it is possible someone will need to make that decision once again… some will die, others will learn. Violence must stop.

.

Lyndon Johnson and Mayor Daley had the courage – I was there.

.

If you disagree, then I suppose you are smarter than the President and Mayor in the history of 1968. But if you do disagree, have a better suggestion. Giving in is not an acceptable one. Locking them up will not work. So what then?

.

For the record – not racist at all  - lots of white folks join in the rioting and looting. Bullets will affect them the same way.

The Coming Vaccine

The Coming Vaccine | INTELLIGENT WORLD TODAY | Scoop.it
The overall survival rate for those exposed to the coronavirus is likely somewhere north of 99.6 percent. COVID-19 mortality has largely run its course in a great many places (as viruses tend to do). And no vaccine has ever been successfully developed for any virus in the corona family.

Should this lead us to conclude that normalcy should not return “until we have a vaccine that we’ve gotten out to basically the entire world,” as Bill Gates insists?

Many people – as we well know – are annoyed by this reference to the clash between Good and Evil and the use of “apocalyptic” overtones, which according to them exasperates spirits and sharpens divisions. It is not surprising that the enemy is angered at being discovered just when he believes he has reached the citadel he seeks to conquer undisturbed. What is surprising, however, is that there is no one to sound the alarm. The reaction of the deep state to those who denounce its plan is broken and incoherent, but understandable. J

Comparing Trump's and Biden's Policies that Support Bebuilding American

Comparing Trump's and Biden's Policies that Support Bebuilding American | INTELLIGENT WORLD TODAY | Scoop.it
For those of us who support the Made in America/Buy American movement and want to rebuild American manufacturing by returning manufacturing to America through reshoring from China, it’s important to consider the policies of President Trump and former V.P. Biden in their bid to be president. Two policies, tax rates and the cost and availability of energy, have a major effect on where a company chooses to locate their manufacturing or headquarters, if they have multiple plants globally. If the corporation has a plant in a country with a lower tax rate, they may choose to shift their profits to

Slavery - Slave societies | Britannica

Slavery - Slave societies | Britannica | INTELLIGENT WORLD TODAY | Scoop.it
Slavery - Slavery - Historical survey: The origins of slavery are lost to human memory. It is sometimes hypothesized that at some moment it was decided that persons detained for a crime or as a result of warfare would be more useful if put to work in some way rather than if killed outright and discarded or eaten. But both if and when that first occurred is unknown. Slavery is known to have existed as early as the Shang dynasty (18th–12th century bce) in China. It has been studied thoroughly in ancient Han China (206 bce–25 ce), where perhaps 5 percent of the population was enslaved.
